Apple gripe: Third time is enemy action!

Ok, I've owned my macbook for several months now. I use it daily and is my 'main' computer that I use to store my personal data and such.

I must say that overall I've found the apple experience very pleasant. There have been a few rough patches but nothing insurmountable.

However I just got through the latest upgrade-patch and I must say that I'm royally pissed off.

Generally I'm a pretty easy-going sort of guy but there is a limit, and once that limit is crossed it is sort of a trigger that flips me from peace-loving individual who tries to find the best in any situation to...SCREAMING MANIAC!

I'm sure we are all well aware of the quote:

Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time its enemy action

Well I've gone through apples software update process about 3 or 4 times, and it seems that each time it it resets all of my preferences to the factory defaults.

Not all of my preferences mind you...just the program preferences. Ones like which IM client I want to use by default, which web-browser, things like that.

Now I was able to forgive apple the first time or two this happend because I assumed it was such a major update that they simply had no choice but to reset everything (perhaps they changed the very way they store preferences or something).

But now I'm no longer going to believe that. I've now come to the conclusion that this is simply a marketing decision to promote their own software.

THAT IS FUCKING UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!

I can't believe that mac-people put up with shit like this. So what? Now I have to go find some fucking program that backs-up my preferences and remember to run that program before the update, and then 'reload' the preferences later? Macs are supposed to be EASY! They aren't supposed to force the user into all sorts of gyrations, or to confuse users who no doubt wonder why their programs no longer work after upgrades.

Now I'm not so naive as to assume I have enough influence to change this. However this is something that seriously diminishes my opinion of apple.

I'm not to the point of throwing my macbook out and returning to Linux, however I've edged a bit closer to doing so, and that magic line is out there somewhere....
